A good multi-tool is a must-have around the campsite. From carving roasting sticks to fixing zippers, you just can’t beat the functionality. The Victorinox Swiss Army SwissTool BS does an excellent job of acting as a mini toolbox in your pocket, and here are few of the things I liked about it.

When you unsheath the SwissTool BS the first thing you’ll like is that it’s jet black. I’ve never seen a multi-tool that looks quite like this. It’s sleek, and looks like something James Bond would use to escape a steel cage before falling into a tank of piranhas. This would be the black oxide finish, which not only looks classy, but also adds extra protection from corrosion. Like all of their multi-tools, the SwissTool BS is rock solid, with no loose joints whatsoever. I’ve always been impressed with the low tolerances and precision they utilize. It’s a top-notch tool, no question about it.

Every single tool has a leaf spring lock, which I really enjoy using. There’s no digging a fingernail in, the way some liner locks can be. You simply pull down on the tabs and the tools can be easily folded back into the handle. It has most of the tools you’d expect, but I particularly like the choices they’ve made here. I appreciate having a separate straight and serrated blade. I’ve never been a fan of the combo, because it’s easier to work with a straight edge when you’re closer to the handle. This configuration allows me to get the best of both worlds. The chisel is also handy for scraping because otherwise, I end up using the blade for that, which isn’t the best idea.

The Victorinox Swiss Army SwissTool BS is a well-built, capable tool that deserves consideration if you’re looking to add a multi-tool to your arsenal. Most people haven’t seen a tool that looks quite like this either, which is part of the fun. I like it when a friend grabs it from  my hand and says, “hey, what is this thing?” When I say it’s from Victorinox Swiss Army, the wow factor only increases.
