Homemade Doughnut Recipe Over The Campfire

What’s not to love about camping? You get to be outdoors, spend quality time with friends or family and cook some amazing food over a campfire. When we head out for the weekend, I always try to create a meal that allows the kids to pitch in and help. I found they are even more willing to help if they are making some delicious and this homemade doughnut recipe over the campfire is just that. It is amazing how easy it is to make a great tasting doughnut with just a few ingredients.

Homemade Doughnuts Over the Fire

One reason I like making this doughnut recipe is its ability to be customized, from just sugar doughnuts to a glazed doughnut. Another reason, I like this recipe is its just so easy to make! All you need are refrigerated buttermilk biscuits, sugar, cinnamon and vegetable oil. You can use the cap from the vegetable oil to cut out the hole of the doughnut. I have made this recipe multiple times now and it has always turned out great. No one will know these are made from biscuits, I’ll keep your little secret safe.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar!

If you have cast iron pans, this recipe can easily be made over the campfire on a grill grate. I wouldn’t recommend making it over a campfire with out cast iron. But it does also work well on a camp stove with a nonstick skillet.

We have made these doughnuts with just sugar and we have also made a glaze for them. So whatever kind of doughnut you prefer, you can make. The plain glaze is pretty simple, but you can start to make more complicated glazes, like the ones I found on Serious Eats. Overall, you can’t go wrong with this homemade doughnut recipe, everyone will be begging for more at the campsite.
