Campfire Baked Apples

Ingredients
  • 1 large apple (sweet tart and firm like a Sweet Tango) per person
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Butter
  • Orange juice
  • Aluminum foil

Instructions
  1. Cut the top ½ inch or so from the apple. Set aside.
  2. Carefully cut out the core and seeds while leaving the apple intact.
  3. Fill the cavity with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  4. Set apple in center of two square sheets of aluminum foil.
  5. Place top back on apple.
  6. Begin to fold the foil up around the apple to form a bowl.
  7. Pour some orange juice over the apple, allowing it to pool a bit in the bottom of the bowl.
  8. Wrap the foil the rest of the way up around the apple and loosely seal – it doesn’t need to be airtight, just hold in the juice.
  9. Place the wrapped apple at the edge of the coals of the campfire and turn often for 30-40 minutes.
  10. Remove from coals when the apple is softened.
  11. Allow to cool a bit, then serve in foil packets and with ice cream if you like!
